Our Story

We crossed paths in primary school, kicking a football and running amok barefoot around our small seaside neighbourhood. We’ve been fortunate to grow up with the ocean and bush at our doorstep, this connection to our environment and appreciation for creativity has been the basis of our friendship ever since. In more recent years we became neighbours and converted the boat shed at the end of the driveway into a pottery studio.

Independently, we’ve been learning the art of ceramics for a few years, both on our own journey exploring handbuilding and the wheel. We share a love for the way a beautiful piece of pottery encourages us to celebrate the little everyday rituals and enjoyment from creating pieces for our homes.

We believe art shouldn't just be for artists. Our pottery teacher once said, adults are the hardest to teach because they struggle to be back in the learning stage and can become frustrated when they can’t seem to get it right the first time.

To us, pottery has been a fun, creative, social experience, giving us a deep appreciation of craftsmanship. It brings back nostalgic memories of how we played as a child, being tactile and engaged in learning. Pottery equally has its challenges, constantly reminding us to be patient, and enjoy the journey. We’re still learning non-attachment as more often than not, the final product will look completely different to how we intended - often in the best way possible!

Our intention with Claydays is to provide a creative and mindful outlet for everyone from the comfort of your own home, encouraging a connection to play like we did as children, and removing all expectations.

Whether you’re stuck in a lockdown, interested in getting into pottery but can’t yet find a studio space available, or just wanting to explore more of your creative side in your own time, this kit was designed for you.
